The BLOG craze - Should you join in?

|

I was recently told that sites like CNN.com and About.com are run using BLOGware.

They aren’t. They are run using a CMS. Some CMS’s are specific to blogs (Such as WordPress and MovableType). Others are more generic (such as TextPattern and e107) and can power very sophisticated websites.

A CMS allows you to post articles via a web interface, and you don’t have to know HTML. Usually you have a few buttons to ad some “pizazz” to your site. Stuff like bold, images, links and italics. Adding these important items to your content is as simple as using Microsoft Word, or WordPerfect.

So then, what are Blogs?

A blog is short for weblog. It is generally an online diary that anyone can read. Some blogs allow you to post comments on the content. Some people choose to restrict those comments. That choice is for you to make.

Blogs are the current lates “buzz” in affiliate marketing. The big thing with blogs, is that most bloggers link to each others blogs. Thus creating a vast network of links. The SE’s are currently crawling these blogs on a frequent basis, so by having a blog, you run the chance of getting Google to crawl your site quicker and more frequently.

To really have a decent blog, you should be posting between 2-3 times a week. If you want your blog to make money as an affiliate site, then keep the theme just like you would with a “regular” website.
