Finding a Hostess
The second step towards starting a profitable home party business is to find a host or hostess for your first party. This step is relatively easy and painless. You will probably want to look at your profit margin and see what kind of specials and deals you can offer your hostess. These hostess benefits can:
- include free shipping
- a percentage of party sales in free merchandise
- large percentages off of certain items.
These will entice people to want to host a party.
Family and friends are usually willing to help you out when you are just starting out. All they have to do is invite their friends to their home for a couple of hours and arrange a few light snacks.
Another easy way to start out is to host your own party! You can offer a small gift or discount to everyone that comes or you can arrange a mystery hostess where you could play a game where the winner will win the hostess benefits.
These first home parties are the best way to book future parties. Set a goal of booking at least two home parties off every one that you present. Every person that comes to a home party has a slightly different circle of friends and family to which you can sell. It’s important to move away from your personal circle of friends and family as quickly as possible. The people that are closest to you tend to be your worst critics. They won’t mind helping out at first, but if you keep hitting them up for sales, they will feel like you are just trying to get money from them.
Keep a detailed mailing list of every customer that you sell to at these home parties. Someone who has hosted a party for you before is very likely to host another! Send out new flyers or make a phone call to remind customers of the great benefits of hosting a party. It is very important to follow up after someone has hosted a party. Find out if they are satisfied with the merchandise and the prices. The more a customer gets to know you, the more comfortable they will be doing business with you. Also, they are sure to tell their friends about your products!
One important thing to remember is that most of your customers won’t come find you. You have to go to them. That means you will need to keep in touch with new products or great offers. More than likely, people won’t be calling you begging to host a party. You will have to be very persuasive in order to book new home parties.
However, the better the deals you can offer your host, the more willing she will be to go along with it. Have business cards made up and leave them with every customer that buys from you. That way, they have your contact information if they have any questions or orders.
